The Blooming Blog

Welcome to my blog, where I share my thoughts and experiences on a variety of topics. I'll be posting a few times a week about houseplants, flowers, books, food, artwork, my favorite plant products, self-care and life! I want this blog to be a fun and inviting space where you can relax and enjoy the content. I hope you'll find my posts informative, entertaining, and inspiring!

Choosing the right houseplants

Houseplants, if you know me, you know I love them! They bring beauty and calm into your home. They make us happy, and they are fun to watch grow! Some even have air cleaning qualities, so they are good for our homes! There are several important things to remember when picking out a houseplant though. One of my biggest issues when it comes to buying a houseplant is how much sun it actually needs. I do not get much direct light where my plants have to sit so, I use plant lights. The lights really do help! I actually just got a new bloom on a plant I have had for years, and it has NEVER produced anything prior to putting the light on it. Another important factor to consider when buying a houseplant is, will my pet eat this? My dog is pretty rotten most of the time, but he never eats my plants! Thank goodness! Some plants are poisonous to our fur babies so be sure to do your research before buying! You can also look for houseplants that bloom in various colors, the fragrance it gives off. and the type of care your plant will need. Personally, succulents are harder for me to keep alive, so I tend to stay away from them unless I am getting a good deal. Some of my favorite plants come off the clearance rack! If it has green on it, it can be trimmed back and it is a good price it usually ends up in my cart. Lowes is one of my favorite places for houseplants on the clearance rack. They always have a great selection and budget friendly prices, because plant addicts need to watch their spending!

Chaos Gardening

Hello and happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I just wanted to chat quickly about chaos gardening. Have you heard of it? It is what it sounds like… kind of chaotic and I am into it at this point. I like it because I usually buy what is on sale, love scattering seeds and love buying native from local markets and other growers. The pollinators also love chaos gardening. They are who we do all this for, right? Chaos gardening also requires less maintenance overtime. When you first start your chaos garden you will need to tend to your plants more. New perennials and seeds need your care until they are fully established. You might have to thin some of your plants out a couple times a year as well to keep things looking nice. You can also plant annuals to fill in holes and to change things up if you want each year, but the goal is to do less with chaos gardening. My favorite places for chaos gardening are in sunny areas on the sides and back of houses in soil that drains well.

The Blooming Blog

Welcome! I am Alexa and I am pretty excited about this blog. I have tried them before and honestly, failed. I never really knew what to say and felt kind of stupid saying it. But something magical happened called GROWTH! Yeah, crazy huh. People definitely matter, and I appreciate their opinions (mostly) but honestly, I don't care what anyone thinks about me at this stage of my life. I feel like it took me a hot minute to get to that point, so it actually feels good. Let me tell you a little more about me... I am a mom of one amazing little girl, I have a super generous wife who would give her life for me, a cute pup, the longest living goldfish ever, and a job that I pretty much love. I have hobbies and passions and things that make me feel good about life. I love plants (obviously), art, being in nature, animals, books, food, and having lots of fun with my family. I have grown into all of these things though. I never used to actually be happy.
